DADA - THE EARLY YEARS

Dada spent his first 5 birthdays at Atuk's house in Jalan Kampung Sireh, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Abang Bosa came back from his term holidays in Malay College Kuala Kangsar bringing along an AGFA SLR camera borrowed from his good friend, Ramli Hassan. Abang Bosa could only afford Black and White film then. Guess who became his willing ever ready model!

For Abang Bosa, I'll Do Anything

For the sake of Art, I'll do it again...

This is taken in Abang Bosa's Den, the far away room behind the kitchen, next to the utility room. In this den Abang bosa used to show his slides taken in Malay College Kuala Kangsar, using his first ELMO Slide Projector which he bought for RM75 using his scholarship money. The projector only takes one slide at a time and you must use your hand to push and pull. It can become very hot because there is no cooling fan. He used for the screen a supposed to be white beedsheet hung on the wall.

This room, being far from the front rooms of the house, serves as a convenient take off point for Abang Bosa to quickly wheel his bicycle across the lawn and by the time Uwan heard the wheels rushing through the stone pebbles, Abang Bosa was already in front of Tengku Mahaleel's house, too far to call. Abang Bosa was on his way to Lido, or Meena, or Rani, or Odeon for his afternoon after school cheap matinee show.
